The Dance Complex, Arts Administration Internship & Development Associate Hire (2023)

I had the amazing opportunity this past summer to work as the Arts Administration Intern for The Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA. While at The Dance Complex, I worked on social media development and content creation, archival projects, and grant writing and assistance. I also was able to take several dance classes and workshops from many different teaching artists. I am so grateful to share that I was hired as a remote Development Associate for the current semester where I am continuing my work with grants and fundraising.

Pictured is me at the 2023 Boston Dance Alliance (BDA) Gala that I had the amazing opportunity of attending with The Dance Complex team. I witnessed dance legends Ann Brown Allen, Diane “Lady Di” Walker, and Deborah Mason be awarded as 2023 Dance Champions for their talent and dedication to dance in the Boston area, and see several performances dedicated in their honor. I was amazed and privileged to be surrounded by so many people who have impacted the Boston dance community.

Dance Residency at Boulevard Elementary School, Gloversville, NY (2021)

Among my most rewarding endeavors at Skidmore has been creating a dance residency program for a 5th grade class at Boulevard Elementary School. This project was part of my Dancing Towards Success Course. I collaborated with a group of two other students to develop thoughtful lesson plans and teaching materials. We had many discussions with the classroom teacher to tailor our lessons in conjunction with the school curriculum. This is where we were challenged with the topic of democracy. We facilitated a three session program that culminated in a final performance of what the students had learned. My group-mates and I referenced a book and made posters to emphasize what democracy looks like in our society and what it means to be a child citizen.

I used my knowledge and training in dance, as well as the confidence and out-going nature developed through business projects and presentations, to complete a successful and memorable residency for the students. This is an experience that I will also remember for its impact on my education and community outreach skills.
